Biography
Sam Hamilton is an artist from Auckland Aotearoa / New Zealand who is currently based in Portland, OR, USA. Over the past 12 years he has worked across film, sculpture, photography and sound. Hamilton describes his artistic practice as “pluralistic, modular and nomadic. A complex of elastic generalism perpetually oscillating between the outward expansion of defined lines of flight and the cyclical collapse of things back to systemic coherence.” Hamilton has worked with artists, dance companies, scientists, musicians and film-makers in locations around the globe from Finland to Samoa. He has performed, presented and screened his work in settings includings ancient Italian opera houses, an abandoned Greek school in central Athens, the Australian outback desert, contemporary art triennials, punky DIY bike shops in Arizona, giant outdoor sculpture parks, warehouse dance parties, city art museums, bookstores and an underground car park.
